Chris Manley wins Fred Sheheen Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership

Chris Manley, Rebuild Upstate’s founder and executive director, received the Fred R. Sheheen Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership Tuesday.
The award recognizes individuals of the statewide nonprofit membership organization Together SC, who have utilized organizational and resource development to effectively manage a nonprofit group. It is sponsored by the Fred Sheheen Non-Profit Leadership Institute at Francis Marion University.
Manley is the 11th recipient of the award. He helped found Rebuild Upstate in 2006 to provide home repair and rehabilitation services in an effort to help families in Greenville, Pickens, Anderson, and Oconee counties to remain in their homes. Manley’s contributions to the group have included strategic planning, Board policy development, funding procurement, marketing and operations strategy development and more. In the past five years, Manley’s leadership of Rebuild Upstate has led to growth in homes repaired 26 per year to 160.
In addition to his work at Rebuild Upstate, Manley is an active board member for various other nonprofit groups including the Greenville Zoo Foundation, the Nonprofit Alliance, the Capacity Building Initiative, and the national ReFrame Association.

I wouldn’t be half the leader I am today if not for their support, engagement, and dedication to our mission of repairing the homes of our low-income neighbors.”
