City Announces Poinsettia Christmas Parade Grand Marshals

November 26, 2012

GREENVILLE, SC – November 26, 2012 – The City of Greenville has chosen two neighborhood association presidents and long-time community leaders to serve as this year’s grand marshals for the annual Greenville Poinsettia Christmas Parade. Mary Duckett, president of Southernside Neighborhoods In Action, and Princella Lee Bridges, president of the Greater Pleasant Valley Neighborhood Association, will lead over 80 parade units in the annual event that is scheduled for December 1 at 6:00 p.m. on Main Street from Augusta Street to North Street.

“Each year, the parade provides us with a unique opportunity to recognize local citizens for their contributions to our community,” said Will Young, parade organizer. “Ms. Duckett and Ms. Bridges were chosen for this honor as a way to recognize them for all the years that they’ve devoted to improving the quality of life for the residents in their respective neighborhoods, and for their tireless dedication to this community.”

The parade night will kick off with the traditional tree lighting with Mayor Knox White at 5:30 p.m. in front of City Hall at 206 South Main Street. Parade highlights include musical marching units, elaborately decorated floats and, of course, Santa Claus.

Spectators will find ample places to view the parade along the route, with prime seating located from the Main Street Bridge south toward Falls Park. For additional information about the parade, please visit events.greenvillesc.gov.
