City of Charleston invites high school students to apply for Mayor’s Youth Commission

March 13, 2024

The City of Charleston is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the Mayor’s Youth Commission (MYC). This esteemed commission provides a platform for rising 9th through 12th-grade students in Charleston County to actively engage in shaping their community.

The Mayor’s Youth Commission (MYC) offers young individuals the opportunity to play a pivotal role in addressing youth-centric challenges within the city. Members of the commission will have the privilege to meet quarterly with Mayor Cogswell and collaborate with Mayor’s Office for Children, Youth, and Families (MOCYF) staff to develop innovative solutions to pressing issues facing today’s youth.

Throughout their term, MYC members will partake in a variety of activities including leadership training, team-building exercises, and community service events. Monthly meetings, typically held in the evenings, provide a platform for members to exchange ideas, voice concerns, and work together towards meaningful change.

“We are excited to welcome enthusiastic and passionate high school students to join the Mayor’s Youth Commission,” said Mayor Cogswell. “This is an incredible opportunity for young leaders to make a tangible impact in our community and contribute to the betterment of Charleston.”

The term for selected members will run from March 2024 to May 2025. Interested students are encouraged to complete the attached application and submit it to Jennifer Gorham-Guion via email at [email protected] or by mail to 75 Calhoun Street, Suite 3700, Charleston, SC 29401.
