CityRange Steakhouse Grill celebrates 25 years

May 24, 2023

CityRange Steakhouse Grill, a locally owned polished casual concept with two restaurants located in Greenville and Spartanburg, S.C., will celebrate 25 years since opening its doors with chef specials in June during National Steak Month.

“With a passion for hospitality, we have remained true to our roots as a refined, yet rustic, place to dine,” said Cory Wilk, local owner based in Greenville, where the first CityRange restaurant opened in November 1998. “We couldn’t be prouder of our team with so many long-term employees or more grateful to our guests who have dined with us over the years, as well as the new guests who discover us every day. They discover the difference here with consistent friendly service and hospitality, creative menus with Chef driven contemporary classics with a twist, and the best pound for pound beef offerings in the Upstate, all in a relaxed urban lodge setting.  We keep a forward focus on bar and food trends so the CityRange dining experience remains an exploration of flavors.”

CityRange chef-inspired menus offer a range of choices with Certified Angus Beef cuts of ribeye, New York strip, and prime rib as well as signature chicken and seafood entrees and specialty sandwiches and salads. The popular Black & Blue entree with tender blackened filet medallions and “the best lump crab cakes ever,” according to  guest reviews, is available for $25.

To celebrate 25 years, CityRange Greenville will introduce a Chef’s Signature Menu starting in June with new offerings throughout the remainder of 2023. Chef Cory Massa will surprise and delight guests with his creative specials of entrees, sharables plates, and sharable sides. For June, the Chef’s Signature Menu will feature a Wagyu flank served with fondant potato, Tuscan kale, and porcini butter.

CityRange Spartanburg and Chef Alex Goins will celebrate with a steak special each week in June. Guests will receive steak fun facts for each special with information about the cut of beef, how to properly cut and cook it, great ways to enjoy it, and recommended wine and side pairings. The beef features will include Osso Bucco for June 5-10, bone-in ribeye for June 12-18 (Father’s Day), flat iron steak for June 19-24, and beef brisket for June 26-July 1.

Restaurant veteran Edna Morris, a native of Rutherfordton, N.C., spearheaded development of the CityRange concept in the late 1990s while an executive at former multi-restaurant company, Advantica Restaurant Group Inc., based in Spartanburg. Cory Wilk, who spent many years as a working chef and leader for national and regional restaurant brands, was recruited to head up operations at CityRange and bought the restaurant from Advantica on September 12, 2002. He opened the second CityRange in Spartanburg on September 30, 2005. Morris and her husband, David Forrester, co-founder of a sustainable and organic winery in Florida, where they reside, became co-owners with Wilk in 2008. Partner David Szustak from Aiken, S.C., joined the leadership team in 2013.

CityRange serves American cuisine featuring a chef-inspired menu of classic and modern favorites with a twist. The CityRange Steakhouse Grill concept originated in Upstate South Carolina with locations in Greenville and Spartanburg. For more information visit CityRange.com.
