Clinton High School’s Javen Cook Named Laurens County Touchdown Club Player of the Week for Standout Performance Against Newberry

The Laurens County Touchdown Club is proud to announce that for the September 6th game, the Player of the week is Junior Javen Cook of Clinton High School.  Clinton High School defeated Newberry High School Friday night 23 – 14 at Newberry.

Javen is a junior offensive running back for the Red Devils as they defeated Newberry High School by a score of 23 – 14 and won the CNNGA Battle of the Beltfor the second consecutive year and won over the Bulldogs for the fourth consecutive year.  Cook was also named the CNNGA Most Valuable Player for the Clinton High School team Friday Night.

Junior Javen Cook offensively had 22 carries for 235 yards and one touchdown.  Javen was a workhorse all night and had long runs of 39 and 49 yards, respectively.  Cook averaged 10.7 yards per carry on the night.  His 49 yard TD run put the Devils up at the time 12 – 7 in the 3rdperiod in the come from behind win over the 10th ranked AAA Bulldogs.

Head Coach Corey Fountain stated, Javen has tremendous work ethic.  He is learning to become a leader on and off the field.  In the past two games he has run the ball with great determination and explosiveness.  We look forward to seeing his progress the rest of the season.”

The Laurens County Touchdown Club will honor Cook on September 19th at the thirdTouchdown Club meeting of the year.  The meeting will be at noon at The Ridge in Laurens. Player of the Week awards this year will presented by Farm Bureau Insurance of Laurens County.

The September 19th meeting will feature Furman University Head Football Coach Clay Hendrix.

Cooper Motor Company, Premier Driving School and Laurens County Farm Bureau Insurance Co. will be the GameDay hosts for the luncheon.

The Laurens County Touchdown Club meets every other Thursday throughout the football season at The Ridge located in Laurens at 301 Exchange Road and the public is invited.  Tickets can be purchased at the door for $15. All meetings are at Noon with the food service line opening at 11:45 am.
