Colonial Cup “Salute to the Military” Off To Fast Start; 1,600 Tickets for Military Distributed Already

CAMDEN,SC – October 8, 2010 – The Carolina Cup Racing Association’s (CCRA) “Salute to theMilitary” is off to a fast start, as the Association has already givenout 1,600 tickets to military personnel and their family members forthe November 13th Colonial Cup.
And even with such a strong response – it’s only been just over twoweeks since the distribution began – the CCRA says there are stillabout 1,400 free tickets for the military remaining.
In addition to celebrating the courage and contributions of Americantroops, the “Salute to the Military” also includes a range of infieldentertainment: Jack Russell Terrier Trials, wagon rides, a carousel,displays of military equipment, and a special American flag designmural on which adults and children can write their notes of thanks toour troops. After the Colonial Cup the mural will be sent toAfghanistan where troops from a Camden-based South Carolina NationalGuard Unit are serving.
“We’re really excited that so many troops and their families havetaken advantage of this opportunity,” said Teri Teed, AssistantDirector of the CCRA. “It is important to show our military howgrateful we are for everything they do for our state and nation, andthis kind of turnout will give us an even better chance to say ‘thanks’for their service.”
The CCRA also said that tickets for the general public arediscounted to $20 through October 30, after which they’ll go to $30.Children under 12 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
“We encourage everyone to come out, honor our troops, and spend a really wonderful day at the races,” Teed added.
In the Midlands of South Carolina alone, the U.S. military has anannual economic impact of $7.1 billion. When the 3rd Army commandstructure moves to Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, the transfer willinclude 1,475 soldiers, 200 civilians, and their families, and resultin a yearly economic windfall of $1.27 billion.
