Columbia Electrical Engineering Firm’s Reputation Grows

COLUMBIA, SC – GWA, Inc. was presented two awards at the ACEC-SC annual Engineering Excellence Awards ceremony held at the Columbia Museum of Art on February 5. The Data Center for AgFirst Farm Credit Bank received an Engineering Excellence Award, and UH/CH Infrastructure Relocation, now the Sabin Street Energy Plant, for the Medical University Hospital Authority received a State Finalist Award.

The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) is the business association of America’s engineering industry, representing more than 5,100 independent engineering firms and more than 500,000 professionals throughout the United States. Engineering Excellence is an annual competition recognizing engineering achievements which demonstrate the highest degree of merit and ingenuity.

Charl Butler, CFO of AgFirst said, “We serve 19 associations located in 15 states with a combined customer base of over 90,000 customers. GWA, Inc. did an outstanding job evaluating our needs for this project. We were able to greatly increase our processing and also yield a cost savings with improved efficiencies amongst the various operating systems.”

Dennis Frazier, Administrator of Facilities and Capital Improvements for MUHA in Charleston said, “There has been no greater single infrastructure project in MUHA history that has had such a positive impact to our hospital facilities readiness and capabilities to sustain our patient care and staff operations during emergency weather or utility failure situations.”

The Sabin Street Energy Plant project and GWA are also featured in the Spring Edition of Caterpillar, Inc.’s national magazine, RunReady. Four Cat C175-16 generator sets were used in the five-story, $40M, energy plant.
