Cool Aid Warms Hearts Helps Unsung Columbia War Hero

August 27, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC – August 27, 2013 – When James White picked up the phone in his Columbia home the voice on the other end said,“Is this the James White who served in the Army in Vietnam?

 “Yes,” Mr. White responded.

“The James White who pulled a wounded soldier out of a creek to get him to a medic?” the man on the other end asked.

“Yes sir,” Mr. White said.

“That wounded man was me. I just wanted to thank you for saving my life.”

Sixty-nine year old Retired Sergeant First Class James White never received a medal for his heroic effort, and he says that’s O.K. “Just getting a phone call like that is good enough,” Mr. White says.

The South Carolina Association of Heating and Air Conditioning Contractors is proud to help this humble man and show our gratitude for his service to our country, through our Cool Aid Warms Hearts program.

Starting on Wednesday August 28th, licensed HVAC professionals will begin installing a new heating and air conditioning system in Mr. White’s home. In addition, experts with The Sustainability Institute and SC Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council will ensure the veteran’s home is energy efficient.

This is more than just a one time gift. Mr. White says his monthly energy bill is on average $440. The Cool Aid Warms Hearts crew believes their work will substantially reduce Mr. White’s monthly bills.

“We are so thankful for association members who volunteered their expertise to help Mr. White,” Leigh Faircloth with SCAHACC says. Faircloth says it makes sense that this project is occurring the same week football season kicks off because “We have a winning team working on this.”  “Our association big hitters are Broom Heating & Air Conditioning, Stoudenmire Heating & AC, Johnstone Supply and Epting Distributors; without them we wouldn’t be able to tackle a project this big. “
