February 4, 2015

CHAPIN, SC – A Chapin Middle School teacher has been named the SC Business Education Association’s Middle School Teacher of the Year.

Michelle Isenhower was presented the award during the association’s annual convention, which was held Jan. 28-Feb. 1. She has been an educator in District Five for five years and teaches keyboarding, computer applications and Google Basics to seventh and eighth grade students earning high school credits.

“It is certainly an honor to be recognized out of the many amazing business educators in South Carolina,” Isenhower said. “Business education provides our students with practical information and life skills that empower them to be successful regardless of the career path they choose. I am fortunate to teach the wonderful students of District Five and watch as they apply what they learn to all areas of their education and life.”

Isenhower graduated from the University of South Carolina Upstate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She received a master’s degree in business education from the University of South Carolina and is a member of several organizations, including SCBEA and the National Business Education Association.

Isenhower served her first teaching position at White Knoll High School, before returning to District Five. In 2013, her students at Chapin Middle School won a national competition hosted by the FBI promoting cyber safety.  Isenhower was selected to participate on a state Department of Education Standards Review Committee in 2014.

Chapin Middle School Principal Anna Miller said, “Ms. Isenhower is respected by and relates well to others and she instills a foundation of respect, responsibility, and knowledge in the students who are fortunate enough to have her as a teacher. ”

A professional resource for business educators, SCBEA aims to provide teachers “with current information on new trends in the field, speakers in various topics of interest, and effective leadership in business education.” The SCBEA Awards Program was established to recognize business educators annually in South Carolina who have made significant accomplishments in the field. One person is recognized annually by the group from the Middle School/Junior High, Secondary, Post Secondary, New Teacher, Supervision and Teacher Educator levels.
