Dorchester County Alcohol and Drug Commission celebrates 50 years of community impact

May 6, 2024

Dorchester County Alcohol and Drug Commission (DADC) is proud to mark its 50th anniversary, a significant milestone reflecting half a century of dedicated service and unwavering commitment to enhancing public health and safety. This landmark anniversary is accompanied by the timely completion of Dorchester County’s Opioid Strategic Plan, an initiative created by multiple key stakeholders throughout the county and funded through the 2022 opioid settlement funds provided by the state.

Established in April of 1974, Dorchester County Alcohol and Drug Commission has been at the forefront of the battle against substance misuse, providing essential treatment and prevention programs that have positively impacted thousands of lives across the county. As we celebrate this anniversary, we remain deeply committed to addressing the challenges posed by drug and alcohol misuse within our community.

The completion of the Opioid Strategic Plan is a significant achievement for our agency and the community we serve. Developed under the leadership of DADC and Dorchester County Government with the support of the state’s opioid settlement funds, the plan outlines a comprehensive approach to combat the opioid crisis that has affected so many lives in Dorchester County and beyond. The strategic initiatives include increasing access to services, enhancing interagency coordination using emerging technologies, and providing support for those in recovery and their families.

“We are incredibly proud to unveil the Opioid Strategic Plan as part of our 50th-anniversary celebrations,” said Sammy Miller, Executive Director at Dorchester Alcohol and Drug Commission. “This plan is a testament to our ongoing commitment to prevent drug misuse and to help those affected by it. With the continued support of our community and partners, we are confident in making significant strides toward a healthier, drug-free community.”
