Dorchester County Fire Rescue receives grant from Walmart Foundation

Dorchester County Fire Rescue was recently awarded a generous grant of $5,000 from the Walmart Foundation to support emergency response. These grants which typically range from $250 to $5,000 are presented to organizations whose project goals address the needs of their local communities.

Thanks to the Walmart Foundation’s generous support, Fire Rescue was able to purchase critical equipment including elevator rescue keys, chainsaw safety gear such as chaps and helmets, and firefighter decontamination kits. These kits play a vital role in minimizing the risk of exposure to cancer-causing materials encountered during firefighting activities. By providing a means for immediate decontamination post-fire, these kits significantly reduce the potential health hazards faced by first responders.

In addition to the Walmart Foundation Grant, the local Ridgeville Walmart Distribution Center also donated five CPR practice mannequins and five AED Trainers.

“Continual training is a key component of our emergency response efforts, and we are grateful for Walmart’s support in helping us maintain the highest standard of preparedness,” said Battalion Chief John Brudzinski Dorchester County Fire Rescue.

“Dorchester County Fire Rescue is grateful for the contributions of the Walmart Foundation and the Ridgeville Walmart Distribution Center,” said Chief Tres Atkinson, Dorchester County Fire Rescue. “Their support enables us to better protect our community as well as the health and well-being of our firefighters.”
