First Lady Announced Weekly Winner – Garrett Academy students lead competition

November 12, 2007

COLUMBIA, SC – November 12, 2007- First Lady Jenny Sanford announced Healthy Intervention as the weekly winner of the Healthy SC School Video Contest.

The ’09 Productions’ team at Garret Academy of Technology in North Charleston submitted the video.  Each of the students on the team will receive a fitness prize pack from Coca Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated- and will remain in the contest for a chance to win the monthly prize of $3,500 cash!  The contest runs through January 31st, with video submissions accepted up until January 23, 2008. Each month, the video in the #1 spot will receive $3,500 cash and the runner up will receive $1,500.  Schools of the top two videos each month will also receive prizes.

’09 Productions’ staged a health intervention with their friend Shavis, a scholar-athlete but self proclaimed honey bun addict.  One of the shots shows Shavis pawing at the school vending machine saying I love me some meat.  Take a closer look at the vending machine options and you will see Hershey’s chocolate bars, Fritos, Oreos, M&Ms, rows of chips, and, surprise, the honey bun.  The humor quickly fades into a serious discussion about Type II diabetes as students sit together and tell Shavis that they care about him and want him to understand the consequences of his addiction.
