Greenville SHRM awards college scholarships

July 5, 2023

The Greenville chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (Greenville SHRM) has awarded college scholarships to two incoming college freshmen: Kelsey Kolarik and Elliot Sanders.

Each year, the GSHRM Walter L. Martin Memorial Scholarship is awarded to two dependent children of GSHRM members. Applicants must be high school seniors or undergraduate students already enrolled in a public or private, accredited, two- or four-year college, university or technical school.  A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required for eligibility.

Scholarship winners are chosen based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities in school and community involvement. Financial need is not a consideration. The scholarship funds may be applied to the cost of tuition, fees, books and room and board.

Kolarik is from Greenville and plans to attend the University of South Carolina Honors College in the fall as a Biological Sciences major. A graduate of J.L. Mann High School, Kolarik was captain of the Varsity swim team and involved in other clubs such as the National Honors Society and National Beta Club. She is the current head coach of her SAIL summer league swim team, Roper Mountain Estates Asheton.

Sanders also lives in Greenville and recently graduated from Wilson Hill Academy, a classical Christian online school based in Austin, Tex. He plans to pursue mechanical engineering at Clemson University in the fall. Sanders enjoys constructing Legos, playing football, and reading futuristic dystopian novels. He has traveled to many European countries, including Italy and Spain, with his family, leading to a greater appreciation of ancient and Renaissance art and architecture.
