Guided Nature Tour Hosted by Dr. Rudy Mancke

CAYCE, SC – August 15, 208 – Join Dr. Rudy Mancke for a Guided Nature Tour of the Cayce Riverwalk Park on Saturday, September 6, 2008.  Tours will be held at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.  The 10:00 a.m. tour will be geared especially for children and nature gifts will be provided to each participant.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.   

Dr. Mancke will conduct a slow and leisurely, guided tour along the Riverwalk trail.  Participants will be given the opportunity to explore plants, animals and geology of the area.  The tour is free of charge, however, space is limited.  Advance registration is required.  To register, call Cayce City Hall at 803-796-9020 by August 31.  Tour participants will meet at the Cayce Riverwalk Comfort Station located at the N Avenue entrance to the Park.

Mancke has been with ETV’s NatureScene since its inception in 1978. His field trips, broadcast nationwide, have earned him a legion of dedicated viewers. Mancke’s infectious enthusiasm for the natural beauty of the environment has made NatureScene a must-see among viewers in 100 markets nationwide. His knowledge of the complex inner-workings of different ecosystems and his great admiration for the natural world make him the perfect guide. In fact, the National Wildlife Federation and the Garden Club of America honored his commitment to resource conservation with special awards.

Along with his duties as SCETV’s director of nature programming, Rudy somehow finds time to author articles and pamphlets about the environment as well as maintain a demanding schedule as a public speaker. Before coming to television, Rudy served as the natural history curator at the South Carolina State Museum for 10 years, and was a high school biology and geology teacher. He earned a degree at Wofford College, attended graduate school at the University of South Carolina, and received honorary doctorate degrees from the College of Charleston, Winthrop College, and Wofford College.
