Home & Garden Show to proceed as scheduled – March 13-15
March 12, 2020The 54th annual Carolina Classic Home & Garden Show will be held at the SC State Fairgrounds Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15, 2020.
Like so many of you, we have spent the last several days and weeks learning about the coronavirus (COVID-19) and how it is impacting our world. For the Carolina Classic Home & Garden Show, that means understanding how it affects our exhibitors, customers and communities, and then making the necessary adjustments to our operations.
We have one simple objective that guides us: reducing the risk for our attendees and business partners. This has been at the center of our planning for the Home & Garden Show this weekend. With that in mind, we have discussed the situation with the S.C. State Fairgrounds and other advisors. With the State Fair’s leadership, we have taken appropriate sanitation and avoidance steps for our event. We have ramped up cleaning services at the facilities and are adding hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the show spaces. Additionally, we have shared specific instructions with our exhibitors on the importance of washing their hands and staying home if they feel sick.
South Carolina DHEC issued the following statement on March 10, 2020, “In line with CDC guidance, the department does not recommend closing schools or canceling public events at this time. DHEC will monitor absentee rates in schools and businesses as well as reports of illness in the community to determine if or when closures may be recommended. DHEC also is providing updated recommendations to schools and day care facilities, colleges and universities, and organizers of large events. That updated information is publicly available at scdhec.gov/COVID19. “
The Carolina Classic Home & Garden Show is a community-level event. Nearly all participation is from the Midlands of South Carolina. We anticipate minimal exposure risk based on the guidance from the CDC that we have received.
We are monitoring the CDC and will take additional action based on their guidance. And we will continue to closely monitor the situation and assure you that we will do all we can to protect attendees and our local business partners.
The Carolina Classic Home & Garden Show is the largest home and garden exhibition in the Midlands. Over 200 construction, home improvement, and outdoor products exhibits fill the Cantey, Goodman and Ellison Buildings, plus outdoor areas.
