Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Strategic Marketing and Communications, the Director of Marketing works to enhance and build the brand image of the University by providing services in the areas of market planning, advertising, social media, direct marketing, creative concepting, design execution and market research. The position builds relationships between University Marketing and Communications and colleges/units to provide leadership, coordination and consistency of strategies and marketing activities to support undergraduate, transfer, adult, and graduate student recruitment and marketing programming support in Academic Colleges.

  • Develops and executes integrated marketing strategy across multiple platforms to promote and maintain University brand, highlight academic programs, centers, specific initiatives, all for the purpose of elevating the school’s profile within the university, broader community and world. Collects, reviews and approves content from academic units and other divisions within the university to create marketing materials.
  • Develops and executes a marketing plan that will include all advertising strategies such as media planning and buying for digital ads, broadcast, print, outdoor etc.
    • Directs implementation USC Upstate marketing programs, including media buys.
  • Work with external vendors to secure advertising; including pricing, contract bidding, etc.
  • Recommend and execute sound strategies to build local, regional, national and global awareness and appreciation of USC Upstate brand and portfolio of programs.
    • Serve on University Marketing and Communication leadership team.
  • Measures and reports the effectiveness of marketing and advertising strategies and programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree and 3 years professional experience related to the development and dissemination of informational material, or Bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience. A successful background check is required.

Understanding of marketing in print, electronic and online media and how each differs in execution. Experience negotiating with other professionals and managers to define deliverables, obtain resources, agree on deadlines, and adjust plans as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree and 4 years professional experience related to the development and dissemination of informational material, or bachelor’s degree and 6 years related experience.

Salary:
$54,974 – $75,000; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
