Judy Mackes Named Grand Strand Regional Medical Center Volunteer of the Year

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – May 18, 2011 – Judy Mackes was named volunteer of the year at the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center Auxiliary’s annual volunteer appreciation lunch in May. Judy joined the hospital in 2002 and volunteers each week in the gift shop, ICU waiting room and with her husband, David, at the main lobby information desk. Judy has donated over 6,200 hours in the past nine years.

Grand Strand Regional volunteers donated over 38,000 hours in 2010/2011. In addition, gift shop profits were $54,000. The gift shop is managed and staffed by solely by volunteers. Proceeds from the gift shop are used to fund scholarships for students pursuing healthcare careers. The Auxiliary currently supports 26 students with $92,000 in scholarships.
