Last Chances to Hear Lander Student Musicians

March 31, 2024
The Department of Music at Lander University invites the community to attend the final four performances of the 2023-24 academic year. All concerts will take place in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium on the Lander campus, and are free and open to the general public.
These “last chance” performances begin with the Chamber Strings Ensemble’s spring concert Tuesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. The ensemble is under the direction of Amy Blackwood.
Next, the University and Old Main Singers will give a special afternoon performance Sunday, April 14, at 4 p.m. This concert was recently announced as the final collegiate choral conducting appearance of Dr. Chuck Neufeld, director of choral activities at Lander, and will include a reception following the concert.
Then, the Lander Wind Ensemble will give its final concert of the year Tuesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. Selections will include “Outdoor Overture,” by Aaron Copland; “Light Cavalry Overture,” by von Suppé; and “Tempered Steel,” by Charles Young. The ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Reed Gall.
Finally, the Department of Music will round out its season of events with a performance by the Lander Jazz Ensemble Thursday, April 18, at 7 p.m. The ensemble features a total of 24 musicians, exploring a variety of different styles of jazz from different eras of the genre, and is under the direction of Dr. Robert Gardiner.
