Laurens County Touchdown Club Names Ethan Collins of Laurens Academy as Player of the Week

The Laurens County Touchdown Club is proud to announce that for week zero, August 23rd, the Player of the week is Ethan Collins of Laurens Academy.

Collins is a sophomore quarterback for the Laurens Academy Crusaders and led the offensiveunit for Laurens Academy as the Crusaders defeated their rival Newberry Academy by a score of 42 – 25 as the Crusaders go 2 – 0 on the young season.  The Crusaders will make their home debut this Friday night for the first of two meetings against Wardlaw Academy at Todd Kirk Field.

Ethan Collins threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns completing thirteen passes on twenty attempts.  Collins had one additional 47 yard TD called back because of a penalty.  Collins also rushed 10 times for 87 yards and a touchdown.  Additionally he scored three 2-point conversions as well.

Laurens Academy Head Football Coach Jolly Doolittle quoted, Ethan has every intangible a Coach wants in a Quarterback.  He is even-keeled, mentally and physically tough, smart, coachable, disciplined, a leader and an extremely hard worker.”

The Laurens County Touchdown Club will honor Ethan on September 5th at the second Touchdown Club meeting of the year.  The meeting will be at noon at The Ridge in Laurens. Player of the Week awards this year will presented by Farm Bureau Insurance of Laurens County.

The September 5th meeting will feature the Presbyterian College Head Football Coach Steve Englehart.  The Blue Hose will travel to Greenwood to take on the Erskine College Flying Fleet on Saturday, September 7th.

The Laurens County Touchdown Club meets every other Thursday throughout the football season at The Ridge located in Laurens at 301 Exchange Road and the public is invited.  Tickets can be purchased at the door for $15. All meetings are at Noon with the food service line opening at 11:45 am.

Featured speaker for the next TD Club meeting on Thursday, September 19th will be Furman University Head Football Coach Clay Hendrix.  Additionally, Player of the Week awards will be presented for the September 6 and 13 High School football games.
