Laurens District 55 High School (LDHS) Digital Art and Design students Braylen Jones (Do A Good Thing), ReMia Boyce (We want you…to be a Poll Worker), and Matthew Butler (Every Job is Important) won 1st, 2nd, 3rd places respectively for their digital poster entries to the Voter Registration & Elections of Laurens County “Be A Poll Worker” Poster Contest.

The students’ posters are on display at the Voter Registration & Elections of Laurens County. Each winner will receive a gift certificate.

ReMia shared her feelings about winning, her inspiration for her poster, and why she joined the contest. “I am happy that I won because I put a lot of time and effort into my poster design. I used the ‘We Want You’, Uncle Sam poster as an inspiration. I wanted to have the chance to get recognition for my Art.”

LDHS Digital Art and Design instructor Candice Iusti shared kind words about her students. She said, “Braylen Jones is the type of student teachers praise. He is always at school, always on time to class, and always completes his work before it is due.”“ReMia Boyce is one of my most talented students. She goes above and beyond. She always ‘freehands’ her work and comes up with very creative ideas for her projects,” Iusti said. Iusti continued, “Matthew Butler has come out of his shell this semester. I praise him often because I am proud to see how far he has come since last year.”

Voter Registration & Elections of Laurens County Director Lynne West hopes to encourage citizens to become poll workers for the 2024 Election cycle. She said, “The Laurens County Board of Voter Registration and Elections is proud to announce our Poster Contest winners, Digital Division. The winning artworks remind us of one’s civic duty to help at the Polls on Election Day.  Artworks will be featured in our Early Voting facility on Bolt Drive and will be viewed by countless voters throughout 2024. We work hard all year to ensure that elections are  secure and run smoothly, but we can’t do it alone. Poll managers are crucial in conducting fair and impartial elections. We appreciate the students at Laurens High School for bringing awareness to our recruitment campaign. Congratulations to the winners!”

Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD 55) Superintendent Dr. Ameca Thomas echoed Iusti’s praise for the students and Director Lynne West’s appreciation for joining the contest to promote civic duty. Dr. Thomas said, “I am extremely proud of our students who placed in the Voter Registration & Elections of Laurens County ‘Be A Poll Worker’ Poster Contest. Their creativity and commitment to civic engagement are truly commendable. This recognition not only highlights their talent but also emphasizes the importance of active participation in our democratic process. I applaud their efforts in promoting voter education and encouraging others to become involved in their communities. These students are inspiring examples of the future leaders and active citizens we strive to nurture in our district.”
