January 26, 2016

COLUMBIA, SC – Lawrence Flynn, an attorney with Pope Flynn, a Columbia-based law firm concentrating in public finance and governmental law, has been appointed to the board of SC Thrive. SC Thrive is a non-profit that helps South Carolinians move from crisis to stability through providing access to a wide variety of services and programs. Among its programs are The Benefit BankR, which allows people to complete several different applications for different agencies in one place and at the same time; Charity Tracker, an online tool that “helps organizations collaborate, share and form a safety net to help individuals and families connect to all the resources available in a community;” Assets4Education, a program that provides A4E coaches through whom students access resources to complete their education; and training events.

“Lawrence’s energy, hard work, and desire to see South Carolina grow and thrive make him a perfect fit for our Board of Directors,” says Tricia Richardson, executive director of SC Thrive. “His attention to detail, strong people skills, and his efforts to bring individuals together will be an asset to our team.”

“I first met Tricia during Leadership South Carolina, and was impressed with the organization she is building,” says Flynn. “SC Thrive combines access to a number of state and private programs, as well as training, for individuals and families in crisis and helps bring them to independence and stability. I had been looking for a place that served people who are in need and that could use my skills and experience, and it became clear that SC Thrive was the right fit.”

Flynn has served as the treasurer on the board of the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Foundation and is a member of Duke University’s Alumni Admissions Advisory Committee. He graduated from Duke University with a BA in history and from the USC School of Law with a JD. Flynn is a member of the Leadership Columbia class of 2012, Leadership South Carolina class of 2015, and of the National Association of Bond Lawyers.
