LT. Matthew Timmerman graduates from FBI National Academy
October 2, 2018Chief Terrence Green announced that Lieutenant Matt Timmerman has graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
On Thursday September 13, 2018, Lieutenant Matt Timmerman, along with 228 men and women from 48 states, the District of Columbia, 25 international countries, four military organizations and five federal civilian organizations, graduated from the FBI National Academy as part of the 273rd session. FBI Director Christopher Asher Wray was the principal speaker at the academy graduation.
Internationally known for its academic excellence, the FBI National Academy offers ten weeks of advanced communication, leadership and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies and who typically serve in executive level positions.
The FBI National Academy began in 1935 and a total of 51,270 graduates represent the alumni of this program. Training is provided by the FBI Academy instructional staff, Special Agents and other staff members holding advanced degrees, many of whom are recognized internationally in their fields of expertise.
Chief Terrence Green said, “I am extremely proud of Matt’s commitment to the FBI National Academy program and his graduation is a significant career accomplishment. He is one of four officers within our agency’s Command Staff who have graduated this program and the objectives learned continue to make for a more professional department which ultimately benefits the Town of Lexington community.”
Lieutenant Matt Timmerman is a graduate of East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 1995 and Southern Wesleyan University with a Master of Science degree in Management in 2012.
Lieutenant Matt Timmerman began his service with the Lexington Police Department in February 1997 rising through the ranks as a Corporal, Sergeant and was then promoted to Lieutenant in 2007. He has worked within the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Special Operations Division and is currently the Division Commander of the Office of Professional Standards.
Lieutenant Matt Timmerman has been married to Elizabeth Timmerman for twenty-five years and they have two daughters, Samantha and Meghan. Lieutenant Matt Timmerman is a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Lexington.
