Midlands Technical College wins two national Collegiate Advertising Awards

Midlands Technical College (MTC) has been awarded two national awards from the Collegiate Advertising Awards, and MTC was the only college in South Carolina to win awards in the Business/Community College group.

The first national award was for the “Finish What You Started at MTC” social advertisements campaign. Focused on increasing enrollment and retaining current students, the campaign strategically continued the courtship of students beyond their initial first-time freshman experience, and it nurtured the student gratification associated with finishing a degree program.

“Everything we do is on behalf of our students,” said Stefanie Goebeler, MTC assistant vice president of marketing communications. “We are proud that the campaign’s efforts helped boost retention. Moreover, we are grateful it motivated our students to complete their degrees and be well on their way to life-sustaining careers.”

The unveiling of the college’s new mascot also received a national award. Mav, the MTC Maverick, made his debut in fall 2021 and was selected out of thousands of votes from MTC constituents. The national awards committee focused on the creativity, production, and overall quality of Mav’s introduction to the campus community.

“Becoming the MTC Mavericks has incited school spirit like never before. Mav the Maverick is the physical and visual incarnation of our college community,” said MTC President Dr. Ron Rhames.

The Collegiate Advertising Awards (CAA) is a national program created to honor professionals in all forms of advertising, marketing, and promotion specific to higher education products and services. The 2021 CAA program received entries from the United States and Canada representing community and technical colleges as well as large colleges and universities. Submissions were reviewed by a national panel of industry experts.

MTC also received two other national awards recently. The National Council for Marketing & Public Relations awarded the Gold Paragon Award to MTC for the summer 2021 Training Guide. Additionally, the Learning Resources Network (LERN), the largest association in continuing education in the world, awarded MTC the Best Business and Industry Practice award for strategically optimizing businesses apprenticeship programs.
