More than Jazz Concert at PC – April 25

March 18, 2023

PC’s Jazz Band brings More Than Jazz to the stage on April 25!

The up-beat blues of Don’t Let Up, the rock and jazz fusion of Peter Gunn, the swing of My Baby Just Cares for Me and Fly Me to the Moon, the modal jazz of So What, the bossa nova of Corcovado and Garota de Ipanema, the broken-four intertwined with swing of Yes or No, the classic Blue Skies, Beatles’ Norwegian Wood, and a bebop with a rumba flair found in My Little Suede Shoes.

What do these multiple styles hold in common? Improvisation!

April 25th’s performance brings a great deal of improvised sections. Since the beginning of the PC Jazz Band—only little more than a year ago—our musicians have been taking bolder steps towards this singular form of musical art. Improvisation can be nerve-racking for  musicians because the results are not totally predictable. Training, knowledge, and skills help and support a good improvisation but do not determine its outcome. Nevertheless, such unpredictability adds an extra dose of adrenaline and excitement during the performances and it can be felt by musicians and listeners alike.

The concert will be held in Belk Auditorium at 7:30. It’s free and open to the public.

We hope you enjoy the expansion of our improvisational boundaries and the exploration of styles that are More Than Jazz!
