MUSC Health East Cooper Earns LEED Certification
March 18, 2013MT. PLEASANT, SC – March 18, 2013 – The new MUSC Health East Cooper facility has earned LEED certification through the United States Green Building Council. LEED or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a voluntary, consensus-based, market-driven program that provides third-party verification of green buildings. Stubbs Muldrow Herin architects led the design team for this 84,000sf integrated specialty clinic that had two primary sustainable goals. One was to create an environment using materials that would promote healing; a concept consistent with the client’s mission. Secondly, a high efficiency ice storage HVAC system was incorporated, which lowers operational costs of the facility while providing exceptional internal environment controllability. The facility was constructed with materials that were sourced locally, had recycled content and/or low VOC content where possible.
The Design Team Included: Stubbs Muldrow Herin architects (Architecture), ADC Engineering (Structural Engineering), GWA, Inc. (Electrical Engineering), MECA (Fire Protection, Plumbing and Mechanical Engineering), Seamon Whiteside and Associates (Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture), Lauren Sanchez Design, Ltd.
