The Who’s on the Move, BizSC, Non Profit Minute is a quick, one minute interview in support of the amazing impact that local non profits have on our communities.

We would like to thank our sponsors of this video series – The Sisters of Charity Foundation and NP Strategy.

Bryan Cordell, Executive Director, The Sustainability Institute

The Sustainability Institute (“SI”) was founded in 1999 to empower South Carolinians to conserve energy and reduce our environmental footprint where we live and work. SI achieves through a combination of community education and outreach, innovative direct services, and workforce training.

They are perhaps best known for the weatherization program which provides upgrades to homes in the Charleston area. The homes that they focus on are primarily low-income owners who are struggling to pay their utility bills.  The weatherization initiative also doubles as a workforce training program. SI recruits at-risk adults aged 18-24 and through an affiliation with AmeriCorps, they provide six months of training.

The result? Over 100 individuals have come through the program, 94% have of whom have received jobs.
