Pawmetto Lifeline celebrates 21st Annual World Spay Day

February 23, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC- World Spay Day is an annual campaign of the Humane Society. On the last Tuesday of February, the animal rights community shines a special light on spay/neuter as a way to save the lives of companion pets as well as community (feral and stray) cats and dogs who might otherwise be put down in shelters or killed on the road. This year, World Spay Day will be celebrated on Feb. 24.

There are over 17,000 homeless pets in the Midlands, and more than 10,000 of them are euthanized each year. To support its initiative to reduce pet overpopulation in the Midlands, Pawmetto Lifeline offers a low cost spay/neuter clinic to individuals in the community.

The Pawmetto Lifeline Spay/Neuter Clinic is the only National Spay/Neuter Response Team (NSNRT) certified spay/neuter clinic in the Midlands and follow all standards of care set forth by the Humane Alliance, which is considered by many the gold standard in high-quality/high-volume spay and neuter.

“Everyone can help save animals’ lives by participating in World Spay Day. Raise awareness in your community by spreading the word about the importance of having a pet spayed or neutered,” said Michael Kokernak, Animal Care and Clinic Director, “A small, low-cost surgery can save the lives of thousands of dogs and cats in the community as well as help beloved pets live a long and happy life.”

Pawmetto Lifeline is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit animal rescue organization with a plan to end pet overpopulation in the Midlands through education, legislation, spay/neuter programs and responsible pet adoptions.
