PC Solo Guitar Recital – La Chitarra Italiano dell’Ottocento ~ The Guitar in 19th Century Italy

Dr. James Buckland, adjunct professor of classical guitar with the Department of Music at Presbyterian College, will perform a solo guitar recital on Monday, April 24th at 7:30pm.

The title of the program is “La Chitarra Italiano dell’Ottocento ~ The Guitar in 19th Century Italy.”  It will feature works by Paganini, Giuliani, and Legnani.  The program will also feature an original composition by Dr. Buckland, “Variations & Improvisations on a Theme by Paganini,”which sets the melody from the famous 24th Caprice in a variety of stylistic settings including jazz and tango.

Dr. Buckland is well known internationally as a guitarist, researcher and writer.  His articles on the early history of the guitar have appeared in print in over 40 countries in multiple languages. He is also a luthier (a string instrument builder), and will be performing on his own replicas of historical guitars strung using original style gut strings.

The concert will be held in Edmunds Hall at Presbyterian College. It’s free and open to the public so come out and enjoy!”
