Powering Up – The Laurens County SAFE Home is in Need of Phone Chargers

August 27, 2023

In today’s fast-paced digital world, connectivity has become an essential aspect of our lives. Our devices, whether they are smartphones, tablets, or laptops, serve as lifelines that keep us connected to the world and the people we care about. For individuals seeking refuge and safety at shelters, these devices can be even more important and sometimes when they flee a dangerous situation, they don’t have time or the frame of mind to remember the phone charger.

The Laurens County Safe Home knows firsthand the importance of staying connected, especially for those who have experienced hardship and adversity. “Many individuals who come to our shelter arrive with their devices but without the means to keep them charged. This seemingly small issue can have significant consequences, as it limits their access to communication, resources, and the support they desperately need,” said Dawn Ardelt, Executive Director of the Laurens County Safe Home.

In an effort to bridge this gap and ensure that every individual who seeks refuge at our shelter can stay connected, we are launching a phone charger donation drive. We are reaching out to our community members, friends, and supporters to help us provide charging solutions for various types of phones and tablets. Whether it’s an extra charging brick or a spare cord that’s no longer in use, every contribution makes a significant impact.

How can you help?

Members of the community can donate chargers for any make or model of phone (gently used or new). There are two ways to contribute.

Donate In-Person: You can drop off your gently used or brand-new phone chargers at Our Little Shop, located at 1500 Western Square Dr #60, Laurens. The thrift shop is open Monday – Friday from 10 am – 5:30 pm and Saturday from 10 am – 3:00 pm.

Donate Online: If you’re unable to visit us in person, you can still make a difference. Reach out to Heidi at [email protected] to coordinate an online donation. Your contribution will go directly towards purchasing new phone chargers for our shelter residents. Click HERE to donate online.

Your support enables individuals in crisis to communicate with loved ones, access essential resources, and take steps towards rebuilding their lives. Remember, connectivity is not just about technology; it’s about connecting hearts and lives when they need it the most.
