Professional and aspiring artist exhibition featuring Emmy Bronson and introducing Lisa Rice
October 16, 2015CHARLESTON, SC – A unique art exhibition featuring renowned portrait artist Elizabeth “Emmy” Bronson and aspiring artist Lisa S. Rice will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 1:00 – 5:00 pm at Harborside East in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The exhibition will feature over 40 works by Bronson, including her highly regarded portraitures, as well as paintings from her maritime collection. Rice, a student of Bronson in her McClellanville, S.C. studio, will have more than 50 of her pieces presented.
An incorrigible artist from childhood on, she began her career at the age of twenty with a true passion for painting. Portraiture comes naturally to Bronson. To her innate ability and fundamental knowledge of the human features, she added training under artists and teachers Bert Silverman, Daniel Greene, John R. Young and Ernest Albert Land. She spent five years as a live-aboard sailor, which opened an intimate connection with the sea. She has been a member of the American Society of Maritime Artists ever since. She is a member of several other guilds and her works are in numerous public and private collections. Bronson began teaching in the 70’s and continues today.
“Teaching has been an important part of my experience as an artist,” said Bronson. “As a teacher, I find myself the perpetual student also. I benefit in many ways, from keeping myself thinking through painting challenges, critiquing, researching new techniques, listening, and also making new friends, all sharing a love of painting.”
Rice painted her first piece, a pastel, at the age of eight. She didn’t pick up an artist brush for another four decades. Today, she has evolved into a landscape artist, using oil on linen canvas to recreate gestures of sentiment and remembrance. Through her training with Bronson she has developed a unique methodology and an appreciation for depth, tone and color creation.
“I was honored when Emmy took me on as a student. Her style and form are methodical yet highly creative,” shared Rice. “To be able to have this pro/am style exhibition together, is wonderful. Of course, I am nervous about showing my work but am proud to share a love that I have had for a long time, which Emmy truly helped bring to life.”
This collaboration between teacher and student will display numerous private collection pieces as well as completed available works and works in progress. The exhibition is free and open to the public on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Harborside East is located at 28 Bridgeside Blvd. in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. next to the Motley Rice law office. Those interested in a private showing or have other questions contact [email protected] or 843.532.7011.
