Putting down roots in Greenville during a pandemic

Real-Life Inspiration from Ted Lasso leads to Mom of 2 Following Her Dreams

Many of us remember (and always will) March 16, 2020 as the day the world started to shut down. For one Greenville local, it was particularly memorable – as she and her family uprooted their life in the UK and moved to South Carolina the day before it all happened.

Dani Wilkinson (Oxfordshire) and her husband Spencer (Staffordshire) were asked to consider relocating to Greenville in December 2019 with ScanSource, shortly after they had acquired the company that Spencer was Chief Technology Officer for in the UK.

They had never really heard of the Carolinas, but a quick internet search captured their interest which then led to Spencer visiting and scouting the area out. With their then 2.5 year old (Bodhi) and their 6 month old (Sonny), they decided to go for the new adventure!

They originally planned to move March 30, 2020 but once the word about COVID-19 started to spread, they quickly rescheduled their flights to an earlier date, left their home in the UK to be packed, and flew to Greenville on March 15, 2020. They describe walking through the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta as a surreal experience. An airport that was so often busy and bustling, was almost empty.

After quarantining in their new rental house in the Hartness neighborhood and getting their feet settled in, Dani knew she had to get back to doing what she loved. She had spent many years learning her craft in PR and digital marketing, from James Dyson (yes, the British vacuum man) and knew she wanted to continue helping businesses in the Upstate.

In July 2020, she started freelancing for Greenville based company Find Great People and implemented a brand refresh, along with launching a new website. From this, the ball started rolling and Bodhi and Co. came to life.

“Like many families, I knew in order to settle and put down roots in Greenville, I needed to find a job I loved doing. Being a busy mom, I wasn’t quite ready to go back to corporate life and be away from the boys,” said Dani.

“After freelancing, I soon realized that there are a lot of organizations and growing brands that don’t always quite have the need or budget for a CMO role. However, they might need some strategic thinking for a specific project, or a clever way to communicate to their customers. And that’s where Bodhi and Co. comes in.”

The inspiration behind the name comes from her oldest son’s name Bodhi, which means enlightenment and free from ego. Dani and her company Bodhi and Co. now help different businesses in the Upstate area grow their brand both nationally and internationally. Specializing in brand development and brand strategy, PR, social media and digital marketing. They also help organizations expand and grow into other markets. From the US, to the UK or from the US to Europe.

Her favorite thing about it? All of the companies that she works with have a real sense of purpose. Whether that’s through sustainable practices, giving-back to the community, or improving other people’s quality of life, it makes her work that much more exciting.

Bodhi & Co. has a different approach to marketing, as they offer a few different ways of working with them. Clients can buy a set number of hours each month and delegate those hours to their marketing focus at the time (retained) or provide a standalone marketing project or goal and pay a fixed, one-time cost (project). By offering these options, they hope to make things more attainable for start-ups and nonprofit organizations who may need a little marketing boost.

Bodhi & Co. is excited to collaborate with more businesses in the Greenville area, and is currently accepting new clients.
