Roper St. Francis Plans 4th Annual Amazing Expo for March 3

Bariatric Surgery, Hormone Compounding, Robotic Colorectal Surgery among New Topics
 
CHARLESTON, SC – March 3, 2011 – Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s Amazing Health Expo will take place from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Thursday, March 3 at Trident Technical College, 7000 Rivers Ave., Building 920, in North Charleston.  More than 20 Roper St. Francis physicians and medical experts will participate in this annual community event, back for its fourth year.

Several new topics are being added to this year’s event, including information on Roper St. Francis’ new bariatric surgery program, advancements in hormone compounding for women, robotic colorectal surgeries and latest techniques to care for vein troubles.

A variety of other topics ranging from Caring for Congestive Heart Failure at Home and The Dangers of a Stationary Life to the latest information on pain management, sleep disorders, and foot and eye care will also be offered.  A cooking demonstration is also planned.

The public is invited to this annual event, which costs $10 and includes breakfast and snacks. Registration is required. To register, please call 402-CARE (2273).

Registration, a health fair and breakfast begin at 8 a.m.  Health and wellness screenings and educational material will include vascular information; cancer (skin, prostate, breast and colon) and stroke risk assessments; diabetes information; cholesterol and glucose screening; and balance and retinal eye screenings.
Three sessions will be offered:

  • Session 1 ( 9 – 10:30 a.m.) focuses on weight management, pain solutions and heart health;
  • Session 2 (10:45 a.m. – 12:15) includes information on sleep disorders, vein health and nutrition;
  • Session 3 (1:15 – 2:45 p.m.) provides a look at diabetes, gastrointestinal and colorectal problems and women’s health issues.
