Roundtable Formed To Secure More Gifts And Grants For USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, SC – As part of the Strategic Plan Objectives to “build a culture of philanthropy” and secure more gifts and grants for the University of South Carolina Upstate, a working group named The Resource Roundtable was formed in November 2014 and held its most recent meeting January 7.  Bi-monthly meetings are to follow.

Chaired by Interim Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. John Masterson, and co-chaired by Vice Chancellor for Institutional Research Dr. Kathleen Brady and Vice Chancellor for Advancement Roger Sullivan, the Roundtable was launched in November, Additional participants include Deans Frieda Davison, Dr. Katharine Gibb, Dr. Lee Hurren, Dr. Frank Rudisill and Dr. Dirk Schlingmann, Dean of Student Affairs Laura Puckett-Boler, Director of Sponsored Projects Elaine Marshall, Director of Athletics Lee Fowler, Executive Director for Public Affairs and Board John Perry, and Director of Development Bea Walters Smith.

The initial focus has been on identifying the University’s most important probable donors and grantors, and properly stewarding those relationships. Also, affirming the highest funding priorities and the most effective manner by which to present them as funding opportunities. The group has affirmed the University System policy for coordination of private-sector gift and grant solicitations, which in all cases should be previewed with the Advancement Office.

At its February meeting, Roundtable members will update the University Funding Priorities document developed for the Carolina’s Promise Campaign, and confirm donor stewardship assignments.

Chancellor Moore saluted the Roundtable group for their teamwork approach, commenting that “the institutions we admire most for their abundant resources are very skilled, and disciplined, about managing donor relationships.”
