How to run a 5-star business

If you think your business is competitive, think about this:

Tiny Lexington has 160 restaurants and expects another 40 will open soon. That’s the outlook from Ted Stambolitis who runs The Flight Deck, one of Lexington’s most popular restaurants.

If you think your industry is changing, it is. Among restaurants, white tablecloth restaurants are dying, Ted says. The market isn’t big enough.

The restaurants of choice among millennials are fast-foot, drive-through restaurants like Chick-fil-A.

So how do you survive and thrive?

You have to work at it, says our dentist, Dr. Greg Wych. He runs a high-end practice in Irmo that’s open 3-1/2 days a week.

That doesn’t mean he works that little.

After he shared his secrets with our VIP Club Master Minders last week, he went back to his office.

Without the need to help patients or employees, he wrote marketing copy and a children’s book on caring for your teeth for a better life.

Here is some of what he shared with us:
1. Make clients’ and prospects’ visits to your business a pleasure. His office reception area is more 5-star resort with latte coffee than the typical dentist’s office.
2. Teach your employees to be ready for your clients when they arrive. No long waits with old magazines in the reception area.
3. Make sure they are thoroughly trained to work fast, satisfy the clients’ needs and go on to the next client. Time is money.
