S.C. Supreme Court Certifies Cheryl Behymer of Fisher & Phillips as Specialist in Employment and Labor Law

March 7, 2008

COLUMBIA, SC – March 6, 2008 – Cheryl Behymer, a partner with the labor law firm Fisher & Phillips LLP, has been certified by the South Carolina Supreme Court as a specialist in employment and labor law.

Rigorous requirements for the certification are outlined by the South Carolina Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Legal Specialization, which is sanctioned by the Supreme Court. To receive the certification, Behymer had to pass oral and written examinations and demonstrate that she has been substantially involved in an area of law for the last five years providing references regarding their reputation for competency and involvement in the field, and by demonstrating extensive time spent handling a wide range of legal matters within the field. In addition to the requirements for initial certification, specialists in each area of law are required to attend a significant number of continuing legal education courses each year to maintain the highest level of expertise in their field of certification.

Behymer has more than 14 years of legal experience and assists clients by providing timely and practical counsel and training in affirmative action, workplace harassment, immigration compliance, employee leave issues involving the Family and Medical Leave Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other labor and employment issues. She defends employers who are responding to administrative charges, actively involved in litigation, or are participating in compliance reviews conducted by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs.

She also prepares affirmative action plans for federal contractors and subcontractors and assists clients with self-audits. She also defends employers in multi-plaintiff lawsuits, including class actions based on Title VII and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, as well as in Fair Labor Standards Act collective actions. In addition, Behymer assists employers in protecting their confidential and trade secret information, as well as enforcing and defending covenants not to compete.
