SC DNR Asks for Your Help Identifying Diamondback Terrapins

March 10, 2023
Next time you head to the coast, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is asking for your help as a new generation of tiny marsh-dwellers is beginning to emerge on our coast.
Diamondback terrapins are the only turtles in the world that spend their entire lives in the estuary, and they’re native to the South Carolina coast. With a warm spring upon us, diamondback terrapins are beginning to emerge from nests and other overwintering habitat in the salt marsh and beach dunes.
Please help SCDNR biologists learn more about these unique reptiles by reporting any sightings at http://ow.ly/WJlm50NeaT6
