Richland School District Five has named Heather Tucker its new Chief Financial Officer. Tucker was approved for the new post during a school board meeting on June 24.

“I am excited to be able to continue my service to the students, teachers, staff and families of School District Five in the role of CFO,” Tucker said. “I look forward to working with the finance team, Dr. Ross and the Board of Trustees to ensure that our district is in the best financial position to support our mission of loving and growing our students.”

Tucker has most recently served as a Financial Literacy and Fundamentals of Computing teacher at Chapin Middle School since 2022. She also has government finance experience, having served as the Director of Budget for the SC State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) from 2017-2022 and as the Director of Planning, Budget and Reporting for the SC Department of Health and Human Services from 2014-2017.

Tucker earned her Bachelor of Arts in political science with a minor in business administration at Clemson University. She earned her Masters of Public Administration with a concentration in policy analysis from Georgia State University in 2006.

“Our district is fortunate to have Mrs. Tucker serve as our Chief Financial Officer,” said Superintendent Dr. Akil E. Ross, Sr.  “Her real-world experience as a budget director will be a great addition to our team.  Mrs. Tucker’s experience in developing governmental budgets, combined with her background as a classroom teacher, will ensure that our budgeting decisions are in the best interest of students.”
