Partnership Will Establish a STEM Continuous Engagement Partnership with Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five

CHARLESTON, SC – The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) is pleased to announce The Boeing Company has invested in the development and delivery of a STEM continuous engagement partnership with Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five.

The partnership is designed to drive improved positive outcomes for middle and high school students by way of a comprehensive, multi-year, advanced academic approach to emphasizing math and critical thinking skills, as well as subject mastery. This offering includes technology-focused teacher training for all middle school math and science teachers, complementary summer camps in computer science and engineering for rising 7-9th grade students, and a virtual offering of Algebra II honors.

“This is an unprecedented event for Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five. Although we have long prioritized STEM Education in our district, we have not always had an abundance of resources to actualize many of our goals,” said Dr. Sharon Quinn, deputy superintendent, Orangeburg Consolidated School District 5.

“The magnanimous contribution from The Boeing Company will not only afford our students opportunities to participate in hands-on summer camps, but will also provide targeted professional development to our math and science teachers. We thank the Governor’s School and The Boeing Company for selecting our district.”

“We are grateful for the support of The Boeing Company and their commitment to helping us positively impact academically motivated schools, teachers and students across South Carolina,” said Kim Bowman, CEO, GSSM Foundation. “Their support makes it possible for us to pioneer unique learning opportunities and drive outcomes that will result in the next generation of Palmetto State leaders and innovators. We look forward to celebrating success with our friends in Orangeburg County.”

“STEM education is a high priority for The Boeing Company,” said Beverly Wyse, vice president and general manager of Boeing South Carolina. “By investing in partnerships such as this one with the Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics, we’re helping to prepare students in Orangeburg and throughout South Carolina for future success in an intensely competitive global business environment.”
