SCPRT Launches Tourism Web Sites for Mobile Devices

August 13, 2008

COLUMBIA, August 12, 2008 – The S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism has launched new Web sites designed specifically for smart phones and other hand-held devices.

The sites are www.DiscoverSouthCarolina.mobi<http://www.discoversouthcarolina.mobi/> and www.SouthCarolinaParks.mobi<http://www.southcarolinaparks.mobi/>. They contain key information about South Carolina attractions, events, lodging, shopping, golf courses, state parks, and even a select group of uniquely South Carolina restaurants, in a format suitable for the small screen.

Removing display items such as maps, photographs, videos and graphics from the full-featured sites at www.DiscoverSouthCarolina.com<http://www.discoversouthcarolina.com/> and www.SouthCarolinaParks.com<http://www.southcarolinaparks.com/> allows consumers to easily access useful information about the Palmetto State while on the go.

“South Carolina’s state tourism agency continues to keep up with evolving technology and consumer behavior by delivering relevant information in a quickly accessible format,” said Chad Prosser, director of SCPRT.

“Visitors appreciate the ability to get travel information while they are on the move, Prosser added.  South Carolina’s new mobile Web sites will provide quick and relevant information about our state to everyone using a Web-enabled mobile device. This initiative helps us provide visitors with information when and how they want it, which will promote increased visitor spending in our state.
