SCRA Receives Superior Security Rating from U.S. Defense Security Service (DSS)

January 28, 2008

CHARLESTON, SC – January 28, 2008 – SCRA has received a Superior rating in an annual audit by the U.S. Defense Security Service. The security rating is the overall assessment of the effectiveness of security systems and procedures in place to protect highly sensitive information at the facility.

DSS has responsibility for approximately 12,000 cleared contractor facilities. Of them, fewer than five percent demonstrate Superior performance, which is the highest rating for an industrial security program. “The success of this review is a credit to the people here at SCRA who have made security a priority,” said Ralph Posey, Principal Facility Security Officer at SCRA.

A Superior rating is reserved for contractors who have consistently and fully implemented the requirements of the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual resulting in a superior security posture, compared with other contractors of similar size and complexity. SCRA has documented procedures that heighten the security awareness of contractor employees that foster a spirit of cooperation within the security community. This rating also reflects a sustained high level management support for the security program and the absence of any serious security issues.

DSS also indicated that SCRA afforded significant contributions to the security community both locally and nationally through training, guidance, and suggestions to peers within the State as well as to national working groups. In addition, SCRA has made infrastructure and space available for training to the DSS and other security organizations.
“This rating gives our partners and clients nationally and abroad added confidence as we protect important information”, said Bill Mahoney, SCRA CEO.
