Skül Leaving USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, SC – Jeanne Skül, vice chancellor for information technology & services and CIO at USC Upstate, has been named director of network services in the division of information technology (DoIT) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  She begins her new role on March 30.

“We are very sorry to see Jeanne leave this University where she has made valuable contributions since 2006,” said Dr. Tom Moore, chancellor of USC Upstate.  “Her 30 years of experience in higher education information technology has served us well and has certainly kept USC Upstate ahead of the technology curve.”

Under Skül’s leadership at USC Upstate, IT initiatives include the establishment of  the instructional technologies department to support distance and online education, initiation of “Spartans Green Sky”virtual desktop infrastructure localizing lab management, replacing PCs with less expensive clients utilizing 70% less power, reducing technical support costs by approximately 50%, and allowing students to run departmental application software in a BYOD environment independent of platform or operating system.  Skül served as co-author of a $2.2 million Title III “Step Up 2 Strengthening USC Upstate” grant from the U. S. Department of Education, which has a major focus on active learning initiatives.

In her new role as the director of network services, Skül will be responsible for operation and seamless delivery of technology services to the UW-Madison campus, UW System, and other users of DoIT systems and services. The team she will lead ensures a solid network and telecommunications infrastructure is in place on a 24×7 schedule.
