More than $2.5 million in grants awarded to South Carolina nonprofits in 2014

COLUMBIA, SC – The Sonoco Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Hartsville, S.C.-based Sonoco Products Company, is now accepting grant proposals for 2015. The Sonoco Foundation’s grant program focuses on education, health and wellness, arts and culture, and the environment. Grant proposals will only be accepted from nonprofit organizations. All proposals must be received by 5 p.m., Friday, February 27, 2015 to be considered.

The Sonoco Foundation understands that strong communities and thriving businesses are linked. To this end, Sonoco gives back to the communities where they operate to address critical social and economic issues. In 2014, Sonoco Foundation awarded more than $2.5 million in grants to South Carolina nonprofits.

“For more than a century, Sonoco has maintained its commitment to the communities and people we serve, “ says Roger Schrum, vice president of Investor Relations and Corporate Affairs. “We are proud to award these funds to organizations that strengthen education, improve health and wellness and enhance our shared communities.”

In March 2014, Sonoco established their corporate donor advised fund at Central Carolina Community Foundation, the Midland’s expert on philanthropy, to strengthen their philanthropic efforts. The Community Foundation acts as a centralized point of contact for all grant requests to the corporation and manages its grants administration, evaluation, outreach and distribution.
