Spartanburg Water water treatment facility takes top honors for superior quality

March 20, 2017

Spartanburg Water’s Landrum Water Treatment Facility recently received both state and national honors for excellence in water quality. The Partnership for Safe Drinking Water awarded the facility recently with its 10 Year Directors Award. These notable awards are given to facilities that meet rigorous program requirements for five or more consecutive years.  Not only will the Landrum Water Treatment Facility be recognized during the June AWWA Annual Conference and Exposition in Philadelphia, but the facility was recognized recently for this accomplishment by the South Carolina Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) at the South Carolina Environmental Conference.

Landrum met the requirements of the Directors Award for the tenth consecutive year, maintaining consistent high-quality performance and commitment to optimizing water system operations. The Partnership’s water treatment plant program has a subscriber base of more than 200 utilities with more than 400 plants, but only a small number earn the Director’s Award, with even fewer earning 10 and 15 year designations.

“We are delighted to have received both state recognition and a national award for our Landrum facility,” said Ken Tuck, Spartanburg Water’s Director of Water Treatment.

The award is a comprehensive self-assessment evaluation following the American Water Works Association’s “Self-Assessment Guide for Surface Water Treatment Plant Optimization.”  A completion report is submitted by organizations and then reviewed by a team of utility peers. Satisfactory reports result in the plant receiving the Directors Award from the Partnership. In order to renew the award, the facility must supply data that meets the stringent requirements of the program, in addition to a written report that demonstrates that the facility continues to actively support the goals of the program.

“Our long standing participation in the Partnership for Safe Water shows a commitment to continuous improvement and the delivery of superior quality drinking water,” Tuck said.
