Teddy Bear check-ups at MUSC Children’s Hospital

February 21, 2013

CHARLESTON, SC – February 23, 2013 – Going to the hospital can often be a frightening experience for children.  In an effort to help children feel more comfortable, the MUSC Children’s Hospital Emergency Department is hosting a Teddy Bear Clinic from 9 A.M. to Noon on Saturday, February 23, 2013.

Children and their families are encouraged to bring a teddy bear or their favorite stuffed animal the Children’s Hospital Emergency Department for a check-up.  Each child will receive a gift bag and will also be able to do art activities sponsored by the 4Cats Art Studio.

Teddy Bears will be registered as a patient and receive an ID bracelet and medical chart. Each teddy bear will go through a triage process where their owners will be encouraged to describe the injuries or illnesses their teddy bear is suffering from, have their weight and vital signs taken and be examined by a pediatrician. Every teddy bear will leave with a diagnosis and discharge instructions such as read two books before bedtime.  Children and their teddy bears will also have an opportunity to become familiar with our child- friendly equipment and meet our pediatric specialists.

Participants should enter through the Children’s Emergency entrance at 96 Jonathon Lucas St.  Parking is available across the street in the Jonathan Lucas Street Garage.
