Bring your knives for a one dollar per knife sharpening to benefit The Charleston Basket Brigade
CHARLESTON, SC – Brad Pitner, owner of The Coastal Cupboard, announced today that the store is hosting its renowned semi-annual Charity Knife Sharpening Event Friday, November 2, 2012 through Sunday, November 4, 2012 at its 644-J Long Point Road location in Mt. Pleasant’s Belle Hall Shopping Center.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 12 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Everyone in the Charleston area is invited to get their straight-edged knives professionally sharpened for a one dollar donation per knife, with all proceeds benefitting The Charleston Basket Brigade (CBB). The store is also offering free gourmet food tastings, a charity raffle booth and more. To accommodate the large crowds, the store has doubled the amount of knife sharpening stations.
“We are so excited for our Charity Knife Sharpening event in a few weeks. We will have extra knife sharpening stations to provide our guests with the best experience yet!” said Pitner. “We are also so thrilled to raise money for The Charleston Basket Brigade. Every dollar raised at our event goes to buy food to feed families in need for Thanksgiving that other would not have a meal to eat that day.”
The Charleston Basket Brigade is a local nonprofit organization with a commitment to bring the community together to provide Charleston Tri-County families with warm meals at Thanksgiving. It only takes $30 to feed a family of 4-6 and 100% of the donations go towards purchasing food. The meal includes a 10-12 lb. turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, cranberry sauce, a pumpkin pie, fresh rolls and butter. Each family receives an anonymous letter inside the basket that reads “This comes to you from someone who cares about you. All we ask is that you take care of yourself well enough to be able to do this for someone else one day.” This year the CBB has set a goal to raise $100,000 to feed 3,333 families (approximately 20,000 residents) at Thanksgiving.
Pam Hartley, Co-founder of The Charleston Basket Brigade said, “We are so thrilled to be a part of this popular event at The Coastal Cupboard. Its businesses like this in the community that really make a difference. Every knife sharpened gets us that much closer to our $100,000 goal. So we invite everyone the community to come out!”
During the event, The Coastal Cupboard will also feature many gourmet foods for guests to taste inside the store. Guests may enter the charity raffle for a chance to win prizes such as cutting boards, cutlery sets, Coastal Cupboard cooking classes and more.
