Trident Technical College Celebrates Black History Month

CHARLESTON, SC – January 13, 2011 – Trident Technical College begins its Black History Month celebration Wednesday, Feb. 2 with a full day ofactivities at the college’s Main Campus in North Charleston. All eventsare free and open to the public.

The Black History Month Opening Celebration will be held 10:30-11:30a.m. Feb. 2 in the Complex for Economic Development (Bldg. 920). Dr.Marcus S. Cox, an associate professor of history and founding directorof the African American Studies program at The Citadel, will speak onthis year’s theme, “African Americans and the Civil War.” TridentTechnical College students will also speak at the event and the TTCGospel Choir will perform.

The celebration will move to the Student Center (Bldg. 410) with a TTCGospel Choir concert at noon. At 1 p.m., the 54th Massachusetts Regiment will stage a re-enactment outside the Student Center. The day’sactivities will end with an African American Movie Marathon, 2-5 p.m.,in Rooms 212-214.

Other events include an African American Vendor’s Day Wednesday, Wednesday, Feb. 9,
10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Student Center.

As part of the college’s Black History Month observance, the PalmerCampus in downtown Charleston will hold East Side Day, a celebration ofcommunity, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11. The college’s Berkeley Campus in Moncks Corner will hold its celebration on Wednesday, Feb. 23,11:30a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the library. All college libraries will displayAfrican American artifacts, books and collectables during the month ofFebruary.
