University’s Dr. Patrick Scott receives Bostick Award
September 16, 2008COLUMBIA, SC – September 15, 2008 – Dr. Patrick Scott, English professor and director of Rare Books and Special Collections for the University Libraries at the University of South Carolina, has been awarded the Lucy Hampton Bostick Award by the Richland County Public Library.
The award, which includes a medal and a cash honorarium, recognizes an individual who has advanced the public interest in books and libraries or who has written a significant literary work on South Carolina.
Longtime RCPL volunteers Clyde and Joan Dornbusch nominated Scott, citing his dedication as an educator, as a curator of university library exhibits and as a passionate advocate for libraries. They also noted his longtime commitment to the acquisition, preservation and digitization of rare books and special collections at the university so that the public, as well as students and scholars around the world, have access to the university’s important literary works and related materials.
Under Scott’s tenure, Universities Libraries has acquired many world-class collections, including ones on F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway and John Milton.
