University of South Carolina students work with local entrepreneurs
December 11, 2012GREENVILLE, SC – December 11, 2012 – Entrepreneurship majors at the University of South Carolina are aiding Funnelicious, downtown’s smallest restaurant, increase sales by using low-cost marketing techniques to promote the carnival delicacies that people used to have to wait to enjoy until the fair was in town.
The USC Moore School of Business students are part of an upper level management class that brings real life scenarios to the classroom with group consulting projects. Student groups are responsible for working with small, local entrepreneurs to solve the business’ issues as well as offer outside advice to the owners.
The consulting project not only benefits the company participating, but also the students – as they are able to experience real world, unique business problems that require creative solutions.
“It’s been nice to get out of the classroom and put in to action everything we’ve learned as business students in the past few years,” said Hannah Bachman, one of the five members of the group working with Funnelicious. “We’ve been faced with a fair share of challenges, but it’s been extremely beneficial to our learning experience.”
The group is helping promote the world’s largest funnel cake — made in-house at Funnelicious – as well as the restaurant’s more healthier fare.
“Everyone thinks they just serve funnel cake and fried food when, in reality, they offer a wide variety of healthy options like, fresh deli sandwiches and wraps. We really want to move towards making the downtown area aware of this healthier image,” said Cindy Tang, another member of the consulting group.
