Verizon Wireless and Honor Flight Upstate South Carolina Partner to Support WWII Veterans

September 15, 2011

GREENVILLE, SC – September 15, 2011 – Verizon Wireless and the Honor Flight Upstate South Carolina (SC) partner for a second continuous year to support our World War II veterans and the sacrifices they have made to keep our nation safe and our people free. Affiliated with the national Honor Flight Network, Honor Flight Upstate SC serves veterans in the Upstate and surrounding areas by offering a program that flies World War II veterans to Washington, DC to see the memorial built in their honor and to experience recognition for their service.

While in the nation’s capital, they also enjoy a tour of DC and visits to the Korean, Vietnam and Iwo Jima memorials.  These WWII veterans are special guests at Arlington Cemetery and they observe the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown soldiers.   With the help of individual and corporate donations, this opportunity is free to WWII Veterans.  Verizon Wireless is showing its appreciation to these honorable military veterans with a $12,000 donation to support the upcoming Honor Flight.

“It is an incredible honor to make even a small contribution to these men and women who served our country and were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for our nation” says Rich Bulger, sales operations and marketing director and prior officer in the 101st Airborne Division out of Ft. Campbell.  “It is a tremendous opportunity to take part in this important cause.”

Since May 2008, Honor Flight Upstate SC has flown nearly 500 WWII veterans to Washington, DC. Many financial supporters in the community have helped with this endeavor including Verizon Wireless. Honor Flight Upstate SC currently has over 150 applications from WWII veterans who wish to fly to the Memorial.
