WHAM Auction Appraisal Team to Host Free Appraisals at Upstate Women’s Show
August 10, 2010GREENVILLE, SC – August 10, 2010 – The Upstate Women’s Show, a three-day annual event for women of all ages, presented by BI-LO and sponsored by The Home Depot and Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, announces that the WHAM Auction Appraisal Team will be onsite providing free item appraisals.
The WHAM Auction Appraisal Team consists of Jerry Bruce, Kelly Dykes and Patsy Robertson. The team will be appraising items in the Santee Room on Thursday, August 26, from 12 – 4:30PM and on Saturday, August 28, from 10 – 12:30PM. Attendees are encouraged to bring objects that are no larger than would fit inside an oven and must be able to be carried inside.
The experts will also be on the “E” Entertainment Stage, sponsored by HRC, Saturday at 1:00 PM highlighting some of the most valuable items that were brought in for appraisal during their segment named Hidden Treasures in Plain View.
“Hidden Treasures in Plain View” was inspired by Master Appraiser Llewellyn “Kelly” Dykes made for a Hilton Head resident last year. One painting the resident asked him to sell for $15,000 turned out to be a 200-year-old masterpiece by Italian master Gaetano Gandolfi. This painting, which hung over the client’s couch, had been missing from the art world for more than 100 years. Scholars only knew of its existence from an archive photo taken in 1895 that is stored in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
The painting was estimated to sell for $1 million at New York City’s Christie’s Auction House. Dyke’s client ended up selling the painting for a final price of $4.1 million.
The Upstate Women’s Show hopes that residents of the Upstate will take advantage of these free appraisals to find valuable treasures they may unknowingly have at home.
The Upstate Women’s Show will be held August 26 – 28 at the Carolina First Center in Greenville. For a full schedule of features visit UpstateWomensShow.com.
